From its humble beginnings in 1976 as a sub-department of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department has progressed by leaps and bounds to become a unique provider of expertise, consultancy and testing facilities to the Textile and Apparel industry, which is the flagship industry of Sri Lanka.. Its team of academic staff with specialist qualifications and highly skilled and experienced technical staff are able to analyze and assist in solving the numerous technical problems faced by the industry.
